Student Induction Programme: 10 Essential Lessons on Culture, Values and Student Success
Introduction
The Student Induction Programme (SIP) for the first-year aided students of the academic year 2026–2027 was successfully conducted on 17 June 2026 at Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi. The programme was organized to help newly admitted students become familiar with the academic environment, institutional culture, campus facilities, and the various opportunities available for their holistic development.
The second day of the programme featured a series of informative and engaging sessions focusing on motivation, cultural awareness, moral values, meditation, cybersecurity, and social responsibility. The sessions provided students with valuable knowledge and practical insights that will help them adapt successfully to college life and develop into responsible individuals.
Objectives of the Programme
The Student Induction Programme was conducted with the objective of supporting students during their transition from school education to higher education.

The first session of the Student Induction Programme was conducted from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. by Dr. Sutha Kumari, Vice Principal and Associate Professor of Physics, Annammal College of Education, Thoothukudi.
Through a variety of activity-based exercises, interactive discussions, and inspiring examples, she motivated students to develop self-confidence, positive thinking, and a goal-oriented mindset. The session emphasized the importance of perseverance, self-belief, and commitment in achieving academic and personal success.

Exploring the College Campus
The second session of the Student Induction Programme, titled “Exploring the College Campus,” was conducted from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
Members of the Students’ Council guided students from their respective departments around the campus and introduced them to various facilities available within the institution. The students visited the library, sports ground, canteen, seminar halls, rest rooms, administrative offices, and different academic blocks.
The campus visit enabled students to become familiar with their surroundings and understand how to effectively utilize the facilities available for academic learning, personal development, and extracurricular participation.
Importance of Tamil Culture and Education
From 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., the Student Induction Programme featured a thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Muthusamy (Retd.), V.O.C. College, Thoothukudi, on the topic “Importance of Tamil Culture and Education.”
The speaker highlighted the richness of Tamil heritage, language, literature, and cultural traditions. He explained how education plays a vital role in preserving cultural values while empowering individuals to contribute positively to society.

Moral Values and Meditation Session
The afternoon session of the Student Induction Programme was handled by Ms. Rakshana, Full-Time Yoga Teacher, Isha Yoga Centre, Coimbatore.
She spoke on the importance of moral values, self-discipline, ethical living, and meditation. The session focused on developing inner strength, emotional balance, and mental clarity. The officers created awareness about cybersecurity and the importance of responsible digital behaviour. Through practical examples, they educated students about cybercrime, online fraud, identity theft, social media risks, and safe internet practices. Students were advised to protect their personal information and use digital platforms responsibly.
The session also focused on drug abuse prevention. The speakers highlighted the harmful physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of substance abuse. Students were encouraged to stay away from harmful habits and contribute towards maintaining a healthy, safe, and drug-free campus environment.
