The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1973 and has since been committed to excellence in the biological sciences. The department initially began with the B.Sc. Zoology programme under the aided stream, laying a strong academic foundation in animal biology, ecology, and related fields.
In response to growing academic interest and the need for advanced studies, the department introduced the M.Sc. Zoology programme in 1992 under the self-financing stream. This marked a significant step in expanding the department’s academic scope and catering to students aspiring for careers in research, education, and environmental science.
A major milestone was achieved in 2003 when the department was elevated to a full-fledged research department, offering opportunities for both part-time and full-time research scholars. Since then, the department has successfully guided numerous M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars, contributing significantly to the field of zoological research.
The department is supported by a dedicated team of 7 faculty members, with 4 in the aided stream and the remaining serving in the self-supporting stream. With a focus on academic rigor, research excellence, and student engagement, the Department of Zoology continues to be a vibrant center of learning and scientific inquiry.
