The Department of Microbiology was established in the year 1999 with the introduction of the B.Sc. Microbiology programme under the self-financed stream. Since its inception, the department has focused on providing a strong foundation in microbial sciences through both theoretical and practical exposure.
Recognizing the growing demand for advanced studies in the field, the department was elevated to a Postgraduate Department in 2003 with the launch of the M.Sc. Microbiology programme. This marked a significant milestone in the department’s academic growth and its commitment to higher education and research.
The department is currently supported by a team of 7 qualified faculty members, all of whom serve under the self-supporting stream. With a focus on academic excellence, laboratory proficiency, and student engagement, the Department of Microbiology continues to play a key role in preparing students for careers in research, healthcare, and biotechnology.
