Inspiring Mentor-Mentee Meeting | Chemistry Dept – July 2025
Mentor-Mentee Meeting Conducted by Department of Chemistry – Kamaraj College
On 26th July 2025, the Department of Chemistry, Kamaraj College organized a well-structured Mentor-Mentee Meeting to strengthen the academic and emotional support system for students. The event provided a valuable platform for students to interact closely with their assigned faculty mentors, discuss challenges, and receive guidance to enhance their academic and personal growth.
The Mentor-Mentee system is an integral part of the student support services at Kamaraj College. The aim of this initiative is to foster a strong and supportive relationship between students and teachers, creating a safe environment where students can openly share their concerns and seek proper direction.
Faculty members of the Department of Chemistry enthusiastically participated in the session, welcoming their mentees with warmth and understanding. The meeting was held in various classrooms and department halls, creating a relaxed and informal atmosphere. This setting helped students feel comfortable and encouraged honest communication.
During the meeting, each mentor interacted with their group of students. The discussions focused on a range of important areas such as academic performance, time management, exam stress, personal difficulties, higher education goals, and career planning. The mentors not only listened attentively but also provided practical suggestions and moral support.
One of the key highlights of the session was the strong emphasis on mental well-being. Many mentors offered tips to manage stress and maintain a healthy balance between academics and personal life. Students also received motivational advice on building self-confidence and setting clear goals for their future.
The mentee students responded with equal enthusiasm. They shared their learning experiences, doubts, and aspirations. Many students mentioned that having a mentor gave them a sense of direction and emotional strength. They felt reassured that there was someone they could turn to during times of academic or personal difficulty.
Some students discussed their interest in pursuing higher studies such as M.Sc. Chemistry, research internships, and competitive exams. Mentors guided them on available scholarship options, university choices, and preparation strategies. This personalized guidance proved highly motivating for the students.
The session also acted as a feedback mechanism, where mentors could identify students facing difficulties and provide timely intervention. Students with low attendance or performance were encouraged to improve, and appropriate follow-ups were planned for such cases.
Dr. G. Vanmathi, Head of the Department of Chemistry, supervised the entire process and appreciated the efforts of the faculty members. She emphasized the importance of consistent follow-up in the mentoring process and encouraged both staff and students to maintain regular communication. She noted that such meetings contribute significantly to shaping responsible and self-aware individuals.
The Department plans to conduct these Mentor-Mentee Meetings every semester to track the progress of the students and offer continued support.
Overall, the Mentor-Mentee Meeting conducted by the Department of Chemistry, Kamaraj College was a meaningful and well-received event. It successfully strengthened the bond between teachers and students and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to holistic education.
