Kavipoonchudar Book Release 2026: A Memorable Tamil Literary Event

Kavipoonchudar Book Release at Kamaraj College

The Department of Tamil, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, organised the Kavipoonchudar Book Release on 25 September 2026. The event took place at the Golden Jubilee Hall of the college.

The department organised the programme jointly with the Kamaraj Arts and Literary Association and the Book Reading Service Forum. The event marked the release of “Kavipoonchudar,” written by Dr. M. Selvi.

Tamil faculty members and students attended the programme. The gathering brought together the author, teachers, invited reviewers, and students to celebrate a new work in Tamil literature.

Welcome and presidential address

First-year undergraduate Tamil student Mayavathi delivered the welcome address. She welcomed the guests, faculty members, and students to the literary gathering.

Dr. K. Thilagavathi, Professor and Head of the Department of Tamil, delivered the presidential address. She presided over the Kavipoonchudar Book Release and addressed those assembled at the Golden Jubilee Hall.

The event gave the Department of Tamil an opportunity to bring a newly published book into an academic discussion. It also allowed students to take part in a programme centred on Tamil writing and reading.

A book release has value beyond the presentation of a printed work. It creates a meeting between the writer, readers, and people who study literature. At this event, that meeting took place within the college and included students of the department.

Release of Kavipoonchudar

Dr. A. Arunachala Rajan, Vice Principal of Kamaraj College, released “Kavipoonchudar.” Writer A. Marimuthu, President of the Book Reading Service Forum, received the book.

The release formed the central moment of the programme. It brought the author’s work before the invited guests, faculty members, and students gathered at the hall.

The participation of the Book Reading Service Forum also reflected the programme’s interest in reading. A new book reaches its readers when people have an opportunity to discover it, discuss it, and consider it closely.

The Kavipoonchudar Book Release provided such an opportunity at Kamaraj College. It gave students a chance to witness how a literary work is introduced and discussed in a public academic setting.

Invited guests review the book

Two invited guests reviewed “Kavipoonchudar” and addressed the gathering. Their reviews were an important part of the event because they moved the programme from the formal release to a discussion of the book.

Dr. Flora Nelson, Professor in the Department of Radiology at Thoothukudi Medical College, spoke about the work. Dr. M. Arockia Selva Sundari, Professor in the Postgraduate Department of History at V. O. Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi, also reviewed the book.

The guests brought their perspectives to the Kavipoonchudar Book Release. Their participation gave the audience an opportunity to listen to considered responses to the author’s work.

For students, a book review session can show that reading involves more than following the words on a page. It also involves thinking about a work, forming a view, and expressing that view clearly.

The programme placed those activities before the Tamil students in a live setting. They could listen to the invited speakers and observe how a new book becomes the subject of discussion.

Author’s response and student participation

Following the reviews, Dr. M. Selvi, author of “Kavipoonchudar,” delivered her response. This gave the writer a place in the discussion after the invited guests had spoken about her book.

The Kavipoonchudar Book Release thus included both the reviewers’ views and the author’s own address. Students could hear the work discussed in the presence of the person who wrote it.

Students also took part in conducting the programme. First-year postgraduate Tamil students Riyani and Gnana Sathya served as the comperes and guided the event through its proceedings.

Their role gave them practical experience in speaking before an audience and presenting a formal literary programme. It also made students active participants in the event, alongside the speakers and guests.

First-year undergraduate Tamil student Kannan proposed the vote of thanks. He brought the formal proceedings to a close by expressing gratitude to those involved in the event.

A literary experience for Tamil students

All faculty members of the Department of Tamil attended the event, along with Tamil students. Their presence made the Kavipoonchudar Book Release a department-wide literary gathering.

The programme gave students several ways to engage with literature. They witnessed a book release, listened to two reviews, heard the author’s response, and helped conduct the proceedings.

These experiences can add to classroom study. A literary work becomes more immediate when students can hear people discuss it and consider how different readers respond to it.
