World Peace Day Competitions 2026: Inspiring 3 Literary Events for Students
World Peace Day Competitions were organised by the Department of Tamil, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, on 21 September 2026 as part of its Domain Club Activities in observance of World Peace Day. Three literary competitions, namely Speech, Essay Writing and Poetry Writing, were conducted to encourage students to express their ideas, creativity and social awareness.
A total of 31 student entries were recorded across the three competitions. The topics focused on the role of youth in promoting peace, the importance of discipline and the vision of building a better world. First and Second Prize winners were selected in each competition and honoured by the Head of the Department of Tamil.
World Peace Day Competitions by the Tamil Department
The programme was organised to mark World Peace Day through meaningful literary activities that encouraged students to think about peace, discipline, social responsibility and positive change.
The Department of Tamil selected themes that enabled students to connect literary expression with important social values.
Through speech, essay and poetry, the participants presented their thoughts and demonstrated their communication and creative abilities.
Speech Competition on the Role of Youth in the Path of Peace
A Speech Competition was conducted on the topic “Role of Youth in the Path of Peace” (“அமைதிப் பாதையில் இளைஞர்களின் பங்கு”).
A total of 10 students participated in the competition.
The topic encouraged students to reflect on the responsibilities of young people in promoting peace, mutual respect, understanding and harmony in society.
The competition also provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their public speaking, presentation and communication skills.
Essay Competition on Discipline
An Essay Writing Competition was organised on the topic “Discipline Leads to Excellence” (“ஒழுக்கம் உயர்வு தரும்”).
A total of 12 students participated in the competition.
The participants expressed their thoughts on the importance of discipline in personal growth, education and responsible social life.
The activity encouraged students to organise their ideas systematically and communicate them effectively through written expression.
Poetry Competition on Building a New World
The third literary event was a Poetry Writing Competition on the topic “Let Us Create a New World” (“புதியதோர் உலகம் செய்வோம்”).
A total of 9 students participated and expressed their thoughts through creative writing.
The theme encouraged students to imagine a better society and communicate their aspirations through poetry.
It also provided a platform for students to demonstrate their literary creativity, imagination and originality.

The World Peace Day Competitions recorded a total of 31 student entries across the three events:
- Speech Competition: 10 Students
- Essay Writing Competition: 12 Students
- Poetry Writing Competition: 9 Students
- Total Entries: 31
The participation reflected students’ interest in literary activities and their willingness to express their ideas on socially relevant themes.
First and Second Prizes Awarded
Two students were selected as winners in each of the three competitions.
The selected students received First and Second Prizes from the Head of the Department of Tamil.
Thus, a total of six prize positions were recognised across the three competitions.
The prize distribution appreciated the students’ efforts and encouraged them to continue participating in literary and academic activities.
Promoting the Message of Peace Among Students
The observance of World Peace Day provided an appropriate platform to encourage students to reflect on the importance of peaceful coexistence.
The speech topic, in particular, encouraged young participants to consider how they can contribute towards creating a more peaceful and harmonious society.
