Workshop on Career Guidance Programme – Dept. of Commerce
The Department of Commerce (SF) at Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, on 13th September, 2024 in collaboration with The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), hosted an insightful Career Guidance Programme aimed at providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the profession of Company Secretaries and the opportunities available through ICSI. The event began on a culturally enriching note with the recital of Thamizh Thaai Vaazhthu, honoring Tamil heritage. Ms. Rathi Meena, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (SF), extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, faculty members, and students, setting a positive and engaging atmosphere for the session. Following her, Dr. Arunachala Rajan, Vice Principal of our college delivered an inspiring address, underscoring the importance of career guidance and professional development in shaping the future of young graduates. His words resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the need for students to explore diverse professional avenues and embrace opportunities for growth. Mrs. Machado Sneha John, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (SF), took the stage to formally introduce the esteemed Resource Person of the day, Mr. R. S. Dravida Gokul, Executive (Academics) at The Institute of Company Secretaries of India. In her remarks, she highlighted the significance of the event, noting how the collaboration with ICSI would offer students a unique opportunity to gain industry-relevant insights into the career path of a Company Secretary. The session was then entrusted to Mr. Gokul, whose expertise and engaging style captivated the audience. He provided a thorough and articulate overview of the role and responsibilities of a Company Secretary, outlining how the profession plays a critical role in corporate governance and compliance. Mr. Gokul further delved into the structure of ICSI, shedding light on the various stages of education, training, and examinations involved in becoming a certified Company Secretary. He also detailed the registration process for aspiring candidates, offering practical advice on how students can navigate the path to success within this prestigious profession. Throughout his presentation, Mr. Gokul emphasized the growing demand for qualified Company Secretaries in the corporate world, particularly in light of evolving regulatory frameworks and corporate governance standards. His session was not only informative but also inspiring, motivating students to consider this challenging yet rewarding career. The total beneficiaries were 137 students of both UG and PG Commerce.
