The Department of Visual Communication conducted an engaging webinar on “The Future of Journalism: AI Tools in News Writing and Reporting” on the 26th of September, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. M. Suresh, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Parul Institute of Liberal Arts, Parul University, Gujarat. The webinar commenced with a welcome address by Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, G. Srinivasa Manikandan, who introduced the speaker and outlined the relevance of AI in the evolving field of journalism. The webinar was organized by Assistant Professor M. Marieswari, who ensured a seamless virtual experience for all participants. During his presentation, Dr. M. Suresh elaborated on the profound impact of AI tools in the areas of news writing and reporting. He discussed how AI is being utilized to automate repetitive tasks like data analysis, content generation, and fact-checking, allowing journalists to focus on more critical aspects of storytelling and investigative work. The ethical implications and challenges posed by AI were also addressed, as well as the future role of journalists in a tech-driven media environment. The participants, which included students and faculty members, actively engaged with the session by asking insightful questions and sharing their thoughts on the future of AI in journalism. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor S.
