Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect: 7 Inspiring Steps Towards a Drug Free India
Introduction
The NSS Unit 218, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, organised the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme – Nasha Mukt Bharat on 31 July 2026 in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the Regional Directorate of NSS, Chennai and the NSS Cell, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli.
The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of a drug free society, promote responsible citizenship and motivate youth to actively contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
Inaugural Session
The programme commenced with the Viksit Bharat Anthem, followed by the screening of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect video.
The inspiring video encouraged students to participate in nation building through social responsibility, volunteerism and active citizenship. It highlighted the role of young people in building a developed and inclusive India.
Presidential Address
The gathering was presided over by Dr. S. Senthil, Principal In charge, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi.
In his presidential address, he emphasised the important role of students and NSS volunteers in building a healthy, disciplined and drug free India. He encouraged students to uphold social values and actively contribute to national development through community service.
Welcome Address and Programme Objectives
Dr. R. Karuppasamy, Nodal Officer and NSS Programme Officer, Unit 218, welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
He explained the objectives of the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect initiative and highlighted the importance of youth participation in achieving the goals of Nasha Mukt Bharat and Viksit Bharat @2047.
Chief Guest Address
The Chief Guest, Dr. A. Veliappan, delivered an inspiring keynote address on the responsibilities of youth in building a developed India.
He encouraged students to stay away from substance abuse, uphold moral values and actively participate in community development through National Service Scheme activities. His speech motivated students to become responsible citizens committed to social transformation.
Felicitation Address
Dr. A. Arunachala Rajan, Vice Principal of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), delivered the felicitation address.
He appreciated the efforts of NSS Unit 218 for organising meaningful programmes that promote youth empowerment, social awareness and national development.
My Bharat Portal Registration and Viksit Bharat Pledge
A special session on My Bharat Portal Registration and the Viksit Bharat Pledge was conducted by Shri. L. Ganana Chandran, District Youth Officer, My Bharat Kendra, Thoothukudi.
He guided students through the registration process and explained the opportunities available for youth engagement through the My Bharat Portal. The session concluded with all participants taking the Viksit Bharat Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to nation building, social responsibility and a drug free lifestyle.
Youth Icon Session
An informative Youth Icon Session was presented by Shri. Eswar Sheshu Botla, III Year M.A. student of Pondicherry University.
Through an engaging presentation, he motivated students to develop leadership qualities, volunteerism, innovation and active citizenship. The session inspired participants to become agents of positive social change and contribute to the nation’s progress.
Vote of Thanks and Programme Coordination
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Panimalar, NSS Volunteer, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, volunteers and participants.
The event was efficiently compered by Ms. Akshaya, II MBA, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
