2-Day Power-Packed UI UX Workshop with Figma Empowers 200 Students at Kamaraj College

Introduction: Fostering Creativity through Design and Innovation

The Department of Computer Science (Self-Finance) at Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, in collaboration with Ascentia, organized an inspiring two-day hands-on session titled “Creativity Unlocked: A Hands-on UI UX Workshop with Figma”. The workshop was held on September 9th and 10th, 2025, at the Seminar Hall and Computer Lab of CV Raman Block.

The primary objective of this event was to introduce students to the latest trends and practical skills in UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) design using Figma, one of the most widely used collaborative design tools in the industry. The workshop encouraged creative thinking, innovation, and practical application of design principles in real-world scenarios.

A total of 200 students from BCA, BSc, MSc, and MCA programs participated enthusiastically, gaining valuable exposure to digital design and interface development techniques.

Opening Ceremony and Warm Welcome

The event began with an engaging opening session hosted by Akshaya Preethi, who served as the Master of Ceremony with grace and professionalism. The program started on a positive note with Divyadharshini from III BCA delivering the welcome address. She extended heartfelt greetings to the dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, and students. Her words set a warm and encouraging tone for the workshop, emphasizing the importance of creativity and design thinking in the modern digital era.

Expert Trainers Lead the UI UX Workshop with Figma

The highlight of the event was the presence of the expert trainers — M. Dharshini, M. Sridevi, and Ms. Gunavarthini — who guided the participants throughout the UI UX Workshop with Figma. Their sessions were meticulously structured to blend theoretical insights with hands-on practical training.

The trainers began by introducing students to the fundamentals of UI and UX design — how user interface influences experience, the significance of usability, and the role of visual hierarchy in digital design. The participants were also familiarized with Figma’s collaborative features, which allow multiple users to design and prototype interfaces in real-time.

Hands-on Practice Sessions and Creative Exploration

A major strength of the UI UX Workshop with Figma was its hands-on approach. Students were encouraged to experiment with Figma’s powerful tools under expert supervision. They worked on interactive prototypes, learned how to design wireframes, and explored techniques to enhance user experience through layout optimization, color theory, and typography.

The sessions also covered real-world scenarios in interface design — such as developing mobile app mockups, web templates, and user interaction flows. Students were given live exercises to translate their creative ideas into practical digital designs. Trainers provided step-by-step feedback and cleared doubts instantly, ensuring an interactive and effective learning experience.

Through these exercises, students learned not only how to use Figma but also how to think like a designer — identifying user needs, simplifying navigation, and crafting interfaces that deliver seamless user experiences.

Target Participants and Learning Outcomes

The UI UX Workshop with Figma was designed primarily for 2nd-year BCA and BSc students, as well as 1st-year MSc and MCA students. This targeted approach ensured that students with a foundational understanding of technology could build on their knowledge with modern design skills.

By the end of the workshop, students had gained:

  • Hands-on experience in UI UX design using Figma.
  • A clear understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • Practical knowledge of prototyping and collaboration in design projects.
  • Improved visual communication and creativity skills.

These skills not only enhanced their technical knowledge but also prepared them for real-world roles in web design, app development, and digital marketing industries.

Collaborative Learning and Student Engagement

Throughout the two-day event, participants showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity. The environment was lively, with students collaborating, discussing ideas, and sharing design concepts. The trainers encouraged peer learning, where participants reviewed each other’s designs and provided constructive feedback.

The Department of Computer Science (SF) emphasized the importance of teamwork and interdisciplinary learning, encouraging students from different courses to collaborate and develop a holistic understanding of design and technology integration.

The sessions also helped students identify career opportunities in UI UX design — a rapidly growing field in the IT sector. The hands-on nature of the program provided a real glimpse into what it means to design for the user and deliver intuitive, aesthetic, and functional digital experiences.

Closing Session and Vote of Thanks

The UI UX Workshop with Figma concluded successfully with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Priyadarshini S from II MCA. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource persons, organizers, faculty members, and participants for making the event a grand success.

She acknowledged the efforts of the Department of Computer Science (SF) and Ascentia for providing such a valuable platform that blended creativity, technology, and practical learning. Her words reflected the collective appreciation of all students who found the workshop both enlightening and career-enriching.

Conclusion: Empowering Students through Creative Learning

The 2-Day UI UX Workshop with Figma at Kamaraj College was more than just a technical session — it was an eye-opening experience that unlocked creativity and innovation among 200 participants. The event demonstrated how effective learning happens when theory meets practice and when creativity is nurtured alongside technical skill.

By equipping students with industry-relevant design tools and principles, Kamaraj College continues its commitment to producing skilled professionals who can lead in the digital design landscape. This successful collaboration with Ascentia stands as a testament to the institution’s dedication to fostering experiential learning and preparing students for a dynamic future.
