Conference Overview: Sustainable Agriculture and Inclusive Economic Growth in India

The PG & Research Department of Economics, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, successfully organized a Two-Day International Conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Inclusive Economic Growth in India (SAIEGI–2025) on 18 and 19 December 2025 at the college campus. The conference provided a vibrant academic platform for academicians, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to deliberate on contemporary challenges and opportunities related to sustainable agriculture and inclusive economic development in India.

The theme Sustainable Agriculture and Inclusive Economic Growth in India was chosen to address critical issues such as rural development, climate resilience, agrarian reforms, and equitable growth, aligning with national and global development goals.

Objectives of the International Conference

The conference was organized with clearly defined academic and research-oriented objectives.

The major objectives were:

  • To promote scholarly discussions on sustainable agricultural practices
  • To examine policy frameworks supporting inclusive economic growth
  • To encourage interdisciplinary research and academic collaboration
  • To share national and international perspectives on rural development
  • To provide research exposure to students and early-career scholars

Day I – Inaugural Session and Academic Deliberations

The inaugural session commenced at 10.00 a.m. on 18 December 2025 with a Welcome Address by Dr. T. Jackuline Brinda, Associate Professor and Head, PG & Research Department of Economics. In her address, she highlighted the relevance of Sustainable Agriculture and Inclusive Economic Growth in India in achieving long-term economic stability and social equity.

The programme was presided over by Thiru. P. S. P. K. J. Somu, Secretary, Kamaraj College. The Felicitation Address was delivered by Dr. K. Bhanumathi, Principal, who emphasized the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, research promotion, and global academic engagement.

Inaugural and Keynote Addresses

The Inaugural Chief Guest, Dr. M. Senapathy, Associate Professor, Department of Rural Development and Agricultural Extension, Wolaita Sodo University, Ethiopia, delivered an insightful address sharing global perspectives on agricultural sustainability, rural livelihoods, and inclusive growth strategies.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. A. Vijayakanth, Associate Professor and Head, PG & Research Department of Economics, Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College, Chennai. His address focused on policy challenges, economic reforms, and sustainable development pathways in India.

Special Addresses and Interdisciplinary Insights

The inaugural session also featured Special Addresses by distinguished academicians:

  • Dr. Menaka Biswal, Associate Professor, MBA Department, HLM Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad
  • Dr. S. Thangamayan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Research and Development, Saveetha School of Law, SIMATS, Chennai

Both speakers emphasized the role of management, law, and policy integration in achieving Sustainable Agriculture and Inclusive Economic Growth in India.

Technical Sessions – Day I

After the lunch break, Technical Sessions were conducted in both offline and online modes.

  • Offline Technical Session: Chaired by Dr. S. Anitha with Dr. A. Devaraj as Co-Chair
  • Online Technical Session: Chaired by Dr. P. Maneesh with Dr. R. Premalatha as Co-Chair

Researchers presented papers on rural livelihoods, agrarian reforms, climate change adaptation, and inclusive economic policies. The sessions witnessed active academic interaction and scholarly debate.

Day II – Panel Discussion and Advanced Technical Sessions

The second day began with a Panel Discussion chaired by Dr. K. Ramesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Alagappa University. Panelists included:

  • Dr. S. Bulomine Regi, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous)
  • Dr. R. Karuppasamy, Kamaraj College
  • Dr. M. Sathish Kumar, Cape Arts & Science College

The discussion focused on integrating agriculture, commerce, management, and technology for inclusive and sustainable growth.

Valedictory Session and Certificate Distribution

The Valedictory Session was held from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. A. Velkumar, followed by the Valedictory Address by Dr. Kathiravan, D., St. John’s College, Tirunelveli.

Certificates were distributed to all participants, and Best Paper Awards were presented to recognize outstanding research contributions. Participants expressed satisfaction with the academic quality and organization of the conference.

Institutional and Academic Significance

The conference strengthened Kamaraj College’s role as a hub for research and academic dialogue. It aligned with national priorities highlighted by institutions such as the
NITI Aayog and global goals outlined by the
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
