Introduction

The Student Induction Programme 2026–2027 for the first-year students of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi concluded successfully on 25 June 2026 at Kamarajar Kalvi Arangam. The eighth and final day of the programme focused on communication skills, student leadership, academic digital identity, reading habits, student feedback, and the overall learning experience gained during the induction sessions.

The valedictory day marked the successful completion of the eight-day orientation programme organized by the Department of English. The sessions helped newly admitted students understand academic expectations, career opportunities, personal development, institutional support systems, discipline, leadership, and co-curricular involvement. The day created a positive and meaningful conclusion to the induction programme and prepared students to begin their academic journey with confidence.

Objectives of the Programme

The Student Induction Programme Day 8 was organized with the objective of completing the orientation process and helping students reflect on their learning experiences.

The major objectives of the valedictory day were:

Session on Communicative English

The first session of the day was handled by Dr. Raveendranath Nehru, Spoken English Trainer, on the topic “Communicative English.”

He emphasized the importance of effective communication skills in academic, personal, and professional life. He explained that English communication plays a major role in classroom participation, interviews, presentations, group discussions, workplace interaction, and career advancement.

The speaker motivated students to develop confidence in speaking English through regular practice. He encouraged them to overcome hesitation, listen actively, read regularly, learn new words, and use English in daily conversations. The session was highly useful for first-year students as they begin their higher education journey.

Session on Academic Bank of Credits ID

The second session was conducted from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. by Mr. P. Saravanan, Office Superintendent.

He guided the students through the process of creating their Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID. He explained the significance of ABC ID in the present higher education system and clearly described the procedures involved in registration and usage.

The session helped students understand the importance of maintaining their academic records through a digital platform. Students were informed that the ABC ID is useful for tracking academic credits and supporting flexible learning under the modern education framework.

The guidance was practical and timely, as it enabled first-year students to complete an important academic requirement with proper awareness.

Session on Students’ Council and Leadership

The third session featured Mr. Bless Gabriel Cecil, Chairman of the Students’ Council. He explained the role and responsibilities of student representatives in the institution.

He highlighted the importance of student participation in leadership, campus governance, discipline, event organization, student welfare, and institutional development. He encouraged the freshers to actively involve themselves in the Students’ Council and contribute positively to the growth of the college.

The session helped students understand that leadership begins with responsibility, service, communication, and teamwork. It also encouraged them to take part in student activities and develop confidence in public interaction.

Book Review by the Students’ Council Chairman

As part of the leadership session, Mr. Bless Gabriel Cecil also presented a book review. Through his presentation, he inspired students to develop regular reading habits and use books as a source of knowledge, confidence, and self-improvement.

He explained that reading helps students improve language, imagination, concentration, thinking ability, and personality. The session encouraged students to move beyond textbooks and explore books related to motivation, leadership, communication, life skills, and personal growth.

Review of the Book Ikigai

Continuing the literary segment, Ms. Deepthi, a third-year Mathematics student, presented a review of the book Ikigai.

She explained the valuable lessons from the book, especially its focus on purpose, happiness, meaningful living, discipline, and inner satisfaction. Her presentation helped students understand the importance of identifying one’s purpose and living with clarity and balance.

The review motivated students to cultivate reading habits and explore books that can guide them in personal development. It also showed how senior students can inspire freshers through meaningful sharing of ideas and experiences.

Student Feedback and Experience Sharing

In the afternoon session, held from 1.15 p.m. to 2.15 p.m., students shared their feedback and experiences gained during the eight-day induction programme.

Many students expressed that the sessions had boosted their confidence and helped them understand the importance of communication, discipline, health, career planning, values, leadership, and campus involvement. They also stated that the programme increased their awareness of placement opportunities, career guidance, and student development initiatives available in the college.
