Student Induction Programme: 10 Powerful Lessons for Responsible Student Life

Introduction

The Student Induction Programme 2026–2027 for the first-year students of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi continued successfully on 19 June 2026 at Kamarajar Kalvi Arangam. The fourth day of the programme featured a series of informative, motivational, health-oriented, and discipline-focused sessions designed to support the holistic development of newly admitted students.

The day focused on important areas such as relationships, gratitude, personality development, physical fitness, general health care, college app usage, student identity, dress code, grooming standards, and campus discipline. The sessions helped students understand that college life requires academic focus, responsible behaviour, healthy habits, emotional maturity, and respect for institutional values.

Objectives of the Programme

The Student Induction Programme was organized to help first-year students adjust to the college environment and understand the values, responsibilities, and opportunities available to them.

The major objectives of Day 4 were:

  • To guide students on building healthy relationships and positive attitudes
  • To promote gratitude, respect, and appreciation towards others
  • To encourage personality development and communication skills
  • To create awareness about physical fitness and mental well-being
  • To educate students on general health care and preventive practices
  • To provide instructions on college app usage and UMIS ID
  • To explain student identity cards, dress code, grooming and campus discipline

The programme helped students understand that education includes academic learning, character formation, wellness, discipline, and social responsibility.

Session on Relationships and Prosperity

The first session was held from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and was delivered by Dr. V. Joseph Peter, Retired Head and Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi.

He spoke on the topic “Relationships and Prosperity.” In his address, he highlighted the importance of maintaining healthy relationships with family members, teachers, friends, classmates, and society. He explained that good relationships are built on trust, respect, patience, understanding, and ethical values.

The session helped students understand that prosperity in life is not measured only through material success. True prosperity includes peace of mind, meaningful relationships, good character, and positive contribution to society. His words encouraged students to develop a respectful attitude and responsible behaviour in their academic and personal lives.

Session on Gratitude Towards People Helping Me

The second session was conducted from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. by Mrs. Priya Ramesh, Motivational Speaker, on the topic “Gratitude Towards People Helping Me.”

She emphasized the significance of gratitude in student life. She explained that every individual grows with the support of parents, teachers, friends, mentors, relatives, and society. Students were encouraged to recognize the efforts of people who support them and express respect and appreciation towards them.

The session reminded students that gratitude creates humility, emotional strength, and positive thinking. It also helps students develop better relationships and become responsible individuals. The Student Induction Programme session inspired students to value the support they receive and move forward with sincerity and thankfulness.

Session on Personality Development

The third session was conducted from 11.45 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. by Mrs. Samyuktha Prithvi Sankar, Founder and Creative Director, NOSTAL, Madurai, on Personality Development.

She encouraged students to build self-confidence, improve communication skills, develop a positive attitude, and present themselves with clarity and confidence. She explained that personality development plays an important role in academic success, career growth, interviews, teamwork, leadership, and social interaction.

The session motivated students to identify their strengths, overcome hesitation, improve self-expression, and cultivate good habits. It also helped them understand that a positive personality is developed through discipline, confidence, respect, communication, and continuous self-improvement.

Session on Human Needs of Self and Body

The afternoon session from 1.15 p.m. to 2.15 p.m. was handled by Mr. Jayaprasad, Founder of JP Fitness Centre, on the topic “Human Needs of Self and Body.”

He highlighted the importance of physical fitness, mental well-being, healthy lifestyle practices, proper food habits, exercise, rest, and self-discipline. He explained that students should take care of both body and mind to perform well in academics and life.

The session encouraged students to avoid unhealthy habits and adopt regular physical activity. He also stressed that fitness builds confidence, energy, focus, and emotional balance. This session added great value to the Student Induction Programme by reminding students that health is an important foundation for success.

Session on General Health Care

The next session was conducted from 2.15 p.m. to 2.45 p.m. by Dr. Ela. Kalaiyarasan, Chief Medical Officer, Be Well Hospitals, Thoothukudi, on General Health Care.

He provided valuable insights on preventive healthcare, healthy habits, hygiene, regular medical awareness, and early attention to health issues. He explained that students should not ignore basic health concerns and should follow simple practices to maintain physical and mental wellness.

The session created awareness about the importance of balanced food, adequate sleep, cleanliness, medical check-ups, and responsible lifestyle choices. His guidance helped students understand that maintaining good health is essential for academic progress, confidence, and personal development.

Instructions on College App, UMIS ID and Campus Discipline

The final session was conducted from 2.45 p.m. to 3.15 p.m. by Mr. P. Saravanan, Office Superintendent, along with the non-teaching staff members of the college.

They provided detailed instructions to students regarding the usage of the College App, UMIS ID, student identity cards, dress code, grooming standards, and campus discipline. Students were clearly informed about the importance of following the prescribed regulations and maintaining proper conduct within the college premises.

The session helped students understand the administrative procedures and digital systems used in the institution. It also created awareness about discipline, punctuality, neat appearance, responsible behaviour, and respect for college rules.

The fourth day of the Student Induction Programme provided several important benefits to the newly admitted students.
