State Level Open & Children’s Chess Tournament 2024
The one day State Level Open & Children’s Chess tournament held on 14th July at Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi attracted 543 players from 17 districts. This event was formerly inaugurated by Mr. R. Anantharam, International Arbiter and Vice President, TNSCA, and Mr.Antony Athistaraj, and Dr.Kannadasan, DIPE,Thoothukudi and Mr. Prateep, Asst. Manager, Tiruchendur Road branch, TMB, Thoothukudi in the presence of Mr.Somu, Secretary, Kamaraj College, and Michael Stanis Prabhu, Vice President, TDCA. Dr.J.Poongudi, Principal of the college welcomed the gathering. Dr.S.Vaseegaran, Honoraray member,TDCA, Mr. Muthuselvam, Secretary, Kamaraj Women’s college, Dr.T.Karpgavalli, Asst Professor, Kamaraj College &Secretary, TDCA, Mr. Nanthakumar, VP, TDCA and FA Mr.Dharmaraj, Chief Arbiter were present at the Inaugural function.
In the open category, Rutherford of Kanyakumari District won the 1st place and received the cash prize of Rs.7000, Yashwant.b of Madurai district won the 2nd place and received cash prize of Rs.5000 and p. Rajasekaran of Thoothukudi District won the 3rd place and received cash prize of Rs.2000.
In the Category level tournament for U9, U11, U13 and U15, Dhanvanth of Thoothukudi won the Under-9 boys title and Deniya of Thoothukudi won the Under-9 Girls title. Danish.S.V of Chengalpattu District won the1st place in the Under-11 boys category and Evangelin Mystica of Thoothukudi won the U- 11 girls category.
Dharshan S of Ranipet, won the title in Under-13 boys category and Charu Dharshini of Madurai won the U-13 girls category. Godsen Jeras of Thoothukudi won the Under-17 boys and Tawfeeqa of Tirunelveli won the U-17 girls title.
Honourable Minister Mrs. P Geetha Jeevan, Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment distributed 8 cycles to the title Winners and 120 Cups and shields to the other winners and also honoured the open prize winners with cash awards.
The tournament had the backing up of Kamaraj College and TDCA members Mr. Somu, Secretary, Kamaraj College, Mr. Joe Prakash, President, TDCA, Mr.RybinThartius, Vice President, TDCA, Mr.R.Anantharam, International Arbiter, Dr.Mohanraj, Honourable Member, TDCA, Mr.Dharmaraj FA, Chief Arbiter, Dr. T Karpagavalli, Organizing Secretary, Mr.Paul Kumar, Secretary, Tirunelveli District, Dr.Guru and Dr.Aldrin, Joint Secretaries of TDCA, Mr.Nixon, Treasurer, TDCA and other members of TDCA and other members of Kamaraj college were present.
