
Two Days: National Seminar on Recent Trends and Challenges in Marine Life Conservation – Dept. of Zoology
Two Days National Seminar on “Recent Trends and Challenges in Marine Life Conservation” was successfull organised.The seminar was open to the public and approximately 800 people took part in the seminar. The key note speakers Dr. Sivaleela Ph.D., Scientist-D, Zoological Survey of India, Chennai addressed the topic Recent Challenges in Marine Life Conservation. Dr. R. Saravanan Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Sri KGS College, Srivaikundam emphasized the significance of Sustainable Fishing Practices to Better Marine Life Conservation. Mr. R. Juno Blessil B.Sc., Forest Range Officer (Wild Life), Gulf of Mannar Marine Park, Thoothukudi Range gave a detailed talk on Indian Wild Life Protection Policy & Act. Mr. Divakar B.Sc., Forest Range Officer (Zonal) shared his views on Coastal Community Based Eco Development in Gulf of Mannar. Mr. S.Subburaman M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Project Manager – Coastal & Marine Conservation, Harit, HCL Foundation, Noida, Uttar Pradesh spoke about Marine Litter Management in Gulf of Mannar.
In order to create awareness on The Challenges in Marine Life Conservation, a rally, a human chain and street play was organize.The second day was focused on ‘ International Whale Shark Day ‘and participants gained valuable insights into the whale shark.
