
Representation of Voices in New Literatures – English Dept.
The Department of English organized a National Seminar on New Literatures in Context on 20.10.2022. The session bloomed with the prayer song preceded by lightning the lamp. The guest speakers were Dr. C. A. Lal, Professor of English, School of Distance Education, University of Kerala; Dr. T. Lilly Golda, Assistant Professor of English, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College; Dr. J. Poongodi, Principal (i/c), Kamaraj College; Dr. A. Arunachala Rajan, Vice Principal, Kamaraj College. Malik Batcha, Student Secretary, Phoenix Literary Association, Department of English (S/F) lit the lamp. V. Shobana, the Chairperson welcomed the gathering. Around 150 participants from 11 colleges made their presence for this National Seminar.
The first session began with the felicitation for Dr. C.A. Lal by M. Athilakshmi of II B.A. English. Sir lectured on the topic “New Literatures in Context”. He started with a happy note for literature students and gave introductions about Commonwealth and New Literatures as well as explained in detail about the concept of ‘Other’.
T. Samuel Theodar of III B.A. English felicitated the resource person for the second session and Dr. T. Lilly Golda. spoke about the topic “South Asian Writing: Some Literary Representation”. She shared her views on South Asian and Partition Literature.
The seminar paper presentation was conducted after lunch about 40 offline and 16 online presenters presented their papers. The articles will be published with ISBN numbering as seminar proceedings.
For the final session Pradeep of I B.A. English felicitated the resource person Dr. J. Ragu Antony, Associate Professor of English, Holy Cross Home Science College. He shared his knowledge about liminal space, wind rush generation and analysis of Zadie Smith’s works. The participants as well as students found all the sessions interesting and fruitful. Positive feedback from the participants was received. The day came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by R. Naga Jothi from III B.A. English followed by the National Anthem.
