NSS Special Camp – Overview
From 18 February 2026 to 24 February 2026 (07.00 a.m. – 06.00 p.m.), the NSS Special Camp was organized by NSS Units 216 and 219 of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi at Perumalpatti village.
The seven-day residential camp focused on community service, leadership development, environmental awareness, and social responsibility. The volunteers actively participated in field work, awareness programmes, cultural engagement, and village development activities.
Day 1 – Inauguration and Orientation
On 18 February 2026, volunteers reached Perumalpatti at 1:30 p.m. and immediately began cleaning activities in and around the camp area, setting the tone for disciplined service.
The formal inaugural programme commenced at 5:30 p.m. with Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The resource person, Mr. Velliyappan, NSS Coordinator from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, delivered a special address highlighting:
- The meaning and objectives of NSS
- Leadership and life skills development
- Youth responsibility in nation building
- Personal experiences in social service
The session concluded with a vote of thanks and a planning meeting for the upcoming days.
Day 2 – Sanitation and Maintenance Work
The second day of the NSS Special Camp focused on sanitation. Volunteers assembled early, and cleaning activities began at 10:30 a.m.
Team A coordinated maintenance tasks, and equipment was distributed systematically. Activities included:
- Cleaning public spaces
- Removing waste materials
- Improving village sanitation
The evening review meeting emphasized teamwork, discipline, and community responsibility.
Day 3 – Environmental Awareness and Cultural Engagement
Day 3 combined field work with environmental awareness. The resource person, Mr. Alaguraj, delivered a session on forest conservation and career opportunities in forest services.
He explained:
- Importance of forests
- Plastic reduction awareness
- Environmental protection practices
The evening cultural programme encouraged participation from villagers and children, strengthening community bonds.
Day 4 – Medical Camp and Campfire
On 21 February 2026, volunteers were divided into groups. Boys participated in field work, while girls assisted in a medical camp organized for village beneficiaries.
The day concluded with a campfire from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., fostering unity and team bonding among volunteers.
Day 5 – Field Work and Motivational Session
Day 5 focused on cleaning and hygiene initiatives. The assigned area was thoroughly cleaned by 11:45 a.m., demonstrating effective coordination.
Although cultural events were cancelled due to rain, a motivational session was conducted by Dr. Parthasarathi, who shared valuable insights on discipline and service-oriented leadership.
Day 6 – Community Cooking and Samathuva Pongal
On 23 February 2026, volunteers engaged in collective cooking activities starting at 7:00 a.m. Meals were prepared and distributed in an organized manner.
The highlight of the day was the celebration of Samathuva Pongal, symbolizing equality and unity. Volunteers demonstrated service-mindedness by preparing and serving meals responsibly.
Day 7 – Conclusion and Documentation
On 24 February 2026, the final day began with a review meeting. Volunteers returned to the college campus and completed official documentation, including Jio-tagged photographs.
The NSS Special Camp concluded successfully with reflections shared by team captains and NSS Programme Officers.
