Introduction to the NSS Orientation Programme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Orientation Programme for Unit 181 was successfully organized at Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi, on 29th August 2025. The event was held at the Swami Vivekananda Block from 2.15 pm to 3.30 pm and was specially designed for first-year students.

The purpose of the NSS Orientation Programme was to introduce new students to the vision, mission, and activities of the NSS. By attending this orientation, students were given a clear understanding of how NSS develops leadership qualities, a spirit of service, and a sense of social responsibility. The session also highlighted the role of youth in shaping a better society through meaningful service activities.

Welcome Address and Opening Remarks

The programme began with a warm welcome address by Dr. A. Esakkimuthu, NSS Programme Officer. He gave an overview of the NSS Orientation Programme and explained its objectives in simple and inspiring words. Dr. Esakkimuthu emphasized that NSS is not only an activity but also a way of life that instills discipline, teamwork, and compassion among students. He also shared that Kamaraj College has always encouraged youth to engage in community service as part of their holistic development.

Address by the Coordinator and Programme Officer

The session continued with a special address by Mr. P. Anand, Coordinator of Anti-Ragging and NSS Programme Officer. His speech was highly informative as he explained the history, vision, and motto of NSS. He reminded the students of the motto of NSS, “Not Me, But You”, which reflects the essence of selfless service and the importance of putting society’s needs above personal interests.

Mr. Anand highlighted how NSS has grown into a powerful movement across the country, providing opportunities for young volunteers to take part in nation-building activities.
