On 26th July 2025, the PG and Research Department of Mathematics at Kamaraj College organized an enriching Alumni Interactive Session aimed at motivating current students and guiding them on preparing for competitive examinations. The event served as a meaningful platform to bridge the gap between past graduates and present students, facilitating knowledge sharing, mentorship, and inspiration.

Dr. P. Sivagami, Head of the Department of Mathematics, warmly welcomed the gathering and set the tone for the session. She emphasized the value of alumni interactions in shaping the academic and professional future of students. In her welcome address, she highlighted how alumni not only serve as role models but also as accessible mentors who have walked the same path and faced similar challenges.

Mrs. V. Sudermani, an accomplished alumnus of the department and currently serving as the Cooperative Registrar, Thoothukudi, was invited as the guest speaker and resource person for the session. Drawing from her own journey, she delivered a highly motivating talk that focused on how students can strategically prepare for various competitive exams such as TNPSC (Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) and SSC (Staff Selection Commission).

Mrs. Sudermani began her session by recounting her college days at Kamaraj College and expressing her gratitude for the education and mentorship she received during her academic tenure. She elaborated on the importance of having a clear goal and staying consistent in preparation. She provided practical insights into managing time effectively, choosing the right study materials, and maintaining mental resilience during the preparation period.

During her talk, she categorized competitive exams based on levels of difficulty and guided students on how to choose exams based on their interests and strengths. She gave valuable tips on forming study groups, using online resources judiciously, and staying up to date with current affairs. She also shared real examples of question patterns, important topics in Mathematics, and how to approach problem-solving in a time-bound manner.

One of the key takeaways from her speech was the importance of discipline and daily revision. She encouraged students to create personalized study schedules and practice mock tests regularly. Her clarity and conviction inspired many attendees to consider competitive exams seriously as a career path.

The session witnessed the active participation of more than 50 students from various undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics programs. Students were deeply engaged and asked several thoughtful questions regarding exam preparation strategies, job roles in government services, and balancing academic workload with competitive exam studies.

An interactive Q&A session followed, where students asked about career opportunities in both government and private sectors. Mrs. Sudermani answered each question with patience, providing actionable advice and sharing her own hurdles and how she overcame them. Her personal anecdotes made the session relatable and impactful.

The faculty of the Mathematics department appreciated the initiative and expressed their intent to organize similar alumni engagements in the future. They acknowledged the session as a vital effort in building a strong support network between alumni and current students, especially for career preparation.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks. Students expressed their appreciation to the department for arranging such a meaningful event that broadened their horizons and motivated them to explore competitive exams as a viable and rewarding career option.
