Joyful Giving Outreach – YRC & Commerce Dept.
The Department of Commerce (SF) at Kamaraj College (Autonomous), in meaningful collaboration with the Youth Red Cross, carried out a deeply touching community outreach program titled “Joyful Giving” on 22nd July 2025. This socially impactful initiative reflected the institution’s commitment to service learning and student-led social responsibility.
Under the compassionate guidance of Dr. V. Gopalakrishnan, Head of the Department, along with the dedicated Youth Red Cross Programme Officers, a group of thirteen committed student volunteers visited Karunai Illam Blinds Home, a shelter for visually impaired elderly residents. The aim was to extend not just material support, but also emotional warmth and a sense of companionship.
The volunteers distributed essential supplies such as soap, biscuits, bread, and rice to the residents, ensuring that their daily needs were met with dignity. More than just a donation drive, the event emphasized empathy and human connection. Students engaged in heartwarming conversations, actively listened to the life stories of the residents, and brought cheer through melodious songs and simple interactive games.
This act of compassion and social outreach created moments of happiness and emotional bonding, leaving a deep impact on both the student volunteers and the elderly residents. The home was filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful exchanges that demonstrated the transformative power of kindness.
The event truly highlighted the values that the Department of Commerce and the Youth Red Cross uphold—selfless service, empathy, and civic engagement. It served as a reminder that even the smallest gestures of love and care can create ripples of positivity and change in society. Such experiences are instrumental in shaping socially responsible and emotionally intelligent youth leaders of tomorrow.
