Home Garden Awareness 2026: Powerful Rural Outreach Programme
Home Garden Awareness programme was organised jointly by the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Tamil Nadu, and NSS Units 54, 55, 56 and 146 of Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi, on 9 September 2026 at Mela Thattaparai and Keela Thattaparai Panchayats. The rural outreach initiative created awareness among the local community about establishing home gardens in individual households using simple, affordable and sustainable methods.
Home Garden Awareness Rural Outreach Programme
The Home Garden Awareness programme focused on encouraging families to establish their own household gardens and produce healthy vegetables.
The initiative introduced the community to the concept of “Low Cost, No Cost” practices and explained how available household resources could be effectively used for home gardening.

A total of 280 community members participated in the programme. In addition, 20 NSS volunteers of Kamaraj College actively supported the conduct of the event.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Ayyanuraj, NSS Programme Officer, Unit 56.
