
Guest Lecture on Know your Millets – Botany Dept.
Guest Lecture was conducted by the Department of Botany on 04.07.2023 from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. on the topic “Know your Millets” at Smart Hall, Kamaraj College. The program was started with Tamilthai Vazhthu. Mrs. G. Priscilla Sweetlin, Assistant Professor and HOD of Botany, Lady Doak College, Madurai was as the Resource person of the program. She spoke in detail about the various types of millets and their medicinal value. She emphasized the importance of including millets in daily diets instead of rice for leading a healthy life, drawing examples from Thirukkural and Tamil Izhakkiam. The session was highly interactive, with Mrs. G. Priscilla Sweetlin engaging with the students by asking questions and clarifying their doubts. The feedback from the students indicates that they found the session beneficial, and over 100 students participated, gaining knowledge about the significance of millet. The HOD, Dr. T. Ponrathy, felicitated the resource person Mrs. Priscilla Sweetlin for her valuable contributions, honouring her with a shawl. The program commenced with a welcome address by S. Karthik Raja, the Class Representative of III B.Sc., and the introduction of the resource person was done by A. Gnana Rajeshwari, a Students Council member from II B.Sc. The vote of thanks was delivered by G. Prise Ishila from II B.Sc., and the entire program was effectively anchored by S. Thean Revathi, the Class Representative of II B.Sc. The event was organized by Dr. T. Kumareswari as the Organizing Secretary and Dr. M. Muthu Sheeba as the Co-organizing Secretary. The National Anthem marked the end of the successful program, leaving the participants with valuable insights into the benefits of including millets in their diet for better health.
