Geneva Quiz 2026: Powerful Contests Inspire 50 Students
Report on 77th Anniversary Geneva Convention District-Level Competition
Geneva Quiz and awareness competitions marked the 77th Anniversary of the Geneva Conventions at Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, on 13 August 2026. The Youth Red Cross of Kamaraj College, in association with the Indian Red Cross Society – Tamil Nadu Branch, organized the district-level programme to promote humanitarian values and social awareness among students.
A total of 50 students from various departments and institutions participated in the programme. Moreover, five competitions gave the participants an opportunity to express their knowledge, creativity and concern for important social issues.
Objectives of the Programme
The Geneva Quiz programme aimed to create awareness about the Geneva Conventions and introduce students to the principles of humanitarian service.
The key objectives included:

Inaugural Ceremony
The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Dr. S. Nazerath Nisha, YRC Coordinator, delivered the welcome address and warmly welcomed the dignitaries, participants and gathering.
Following the welcome, Dr. S. Senthil, Vice Principal, delivered the presidential address. He encouraged the students to participate actively and understand the humanitarian values promoted through the programme.
Importance of the Geneva Conventions
Dr. N. Sudha Kumari, Chief Guest of the programme, delivered an informative address on the significance of the Geneva Conventions.
She explained their importance in protecting human dignity and promoting humanitarian principles during armed conflicts. Furthermore, her address helped the participants understand the values of humanity, compassion and respect for human life.
Dr. R. Karuppasamy, Managing Committee Member of the Indian Red Cross Society, also shared valuable insights with the students. His interaction further strengthened their understanding of humanitarian service and the role of the Red Cross movement.

As part of the Geneva Quiz programme, the organizers conducted five competitions based on humanitarian personalities and important social issues.

The essay writing competitions focused on Henry Dunant, whose humanitarian vision led to the creation of the Red Cross movement.
Through their essays, students explored his life, humanitarian work and contribution to the development of international humanitarian action. Moreover, the topic encouraged participants to understand how compassion and individual initiative can create lasting social change.
Awareness on Child Protection
The English and Tamil oratorical competitions focused on child abuse and child labour.
Students expressed their views on protecting children and ensuring their rights, safety and access to education. Furthermore, the competition encouraged participants to speak confidently about important social concerns.

Creative Campaign Against Drug Abuse
