Mr. R. Murali Dharan, CEO, CONNECT Training Solutions, Tirunelveli, served as the Resource Person. He engaged the participants through interactive discussions, interview-based activities, professional communication exercises, career-oriented discussions and an introduction to useful AI tools.

English Beyond Books Workshop 2026

The English Beyond Books Workshop was designed to connect the study of English with practical skills required for higher education, employment and professional life.

The workshop demonstrated that English learning extends beyond literature and textbooks. Effective communication, confidence, leadership, career awareness and familiarity with emerging technologies can play an important role in students’ professional development.

The State-Level Workshop provided an interactive platform where students could learn, participate and explore the practical relevance of English in the modern workplace.

Inauguration of the State-Level Workshop

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. K. Banumathi, Principal, and Dr. A. Arunachala Rajan, Vice-Principal.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The Resource Person, Principal, Vice-Principal, Dr. K. Kalyani, Head of the Department i/c, and the office bearers of the Phoenix Literary Association jointly lit the lamp and formally inaugurated the workshop.

The inauguration marked the beginning of a day of interactive and career-oriented learning.

English Beyond Classroom Learning

A major focus of the English Beyond Books Workshop was to help students understand how their English skills can be applied beyond conventional academic learning.

The programme connected language skills with communication, interviews, leadership, career preparation and workplace readiness.

Students were encouraged to recognise communication as an important professional skill and to develop the confidence needed to use English effectively in different situations.

Interactive Learning and Practical Activities

The workshop featured active participation, interactive discussions and practical activities.

Rather than limiting the programme to lectures, the Resource Person involved students in activities that encouraged them to communicate, think and respond actively.

The interactive approach created opportunities for participants to express their ideas confidently and develop skills relevant to professional environments.

Interview-Based Activities

Interview-based activities formed an important component of the English Beyond Books Workshop.

These activities gave students practical exposure to situations they may encounter while preparing for employment opportunities.

Participation in such exercises encouraged students to communicate with greater confidence and understand the importance of presenting themselves effectively in professional situations.

Professional Communication Skills

The programme included exercises designed to strengthen professional communication.

Students were encouraged to understand the importance of expressing their thoughts clearly, confidently and appropriately.

The session helped participants recognise that strong communication skills can complement academic qualifications and contribute significantly to workplace readiness.

Career-Oriented Discussions

Career-oriented discussions were another significant part of the workshop.

The Resource Person introduced students to emerging career opportunities and encouraged them to think about the skills required to prepare for their future professions.

These discussions helped participants develop greater awareness of career pathways and understand the importance of continuous skill development.

AI-Powered Communication

A contemporary feature of the English Beyond Books Workshop was the introduction to AI tools and techniques for communication and professional development.

The Resource Person introduced useful AI-enabled approaches that could support students in communication, learning and career preparation.

The session gave students exposure to the growing role of artificial intelligence in academic and professional environments and encouraged them to become familiar with emerging technologies.

Developing Leadership Qualities

The workshop also provided students with valuable exposure to leadership qualities.

Through interaction and practical participation, students were encouraged to express their ideas, communicate confidently and become more active in group and professional situations.

The programme helped participants understand that leadership involves effective communication, confidence, participation and the ability to engage constructively with others.

Essential Workplace Skills

The practical activities conducted during the programme helped students understand the importance of developing essential workplace skills.

Interview exercises, communication activities and career discussions gave participants an opportunity to consider the expectations they may encounter as they move from college to professional life.

The English Beyond Books Workshop therefore helped bridge the connection between academic learning and career readiness.

Recognition of Best and Active Participants

At the end of the session, the best and active participants were rewarded with cash and prizes in recognition of their enthusiastic involvement.

The recognition encouraged active participation and added a motivating dimension to the workshop.

It also acknowledged students who demonstrated enthusiasm and involvement during the interactive activities.

Feedback from Participating Colleges

The workshop was followed by a feedback session.

Participants from Kamaraj College as well as other colleges shared their feedback on the programme and offered suggestions for future workshops.

The feedback session provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on their learning experience and contribute ideas that could support the planning of upcoming programmes.
