A grand Drug Awareness Rally and cultural programme titled “Drug-Free Thoothukudi” was successfully organized on Saturday, 31 January 2026, from 03.30 p.m. to 06.30 p.m. by the Thoothukudi Kamaraj Educational Group and the Kamaraj College Anti-Drug Club. The event aimed to create strong public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to inspire youth and citizens to commit to a healthy, substance-free lifestyle.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, school representatives, and the general public, making it one of the most impactful awareness initiatives organized in the region.
Inauguration and Chief Guest Address
Drug Awareness Rally was formally inaugurated by Dr. V. Kalaivani, Deputy Dean and Senior Doctor of Thoothukudi Medical College, who participated as the chief guest. She flagged off the rally and delivered a compelling special address, emphasizing the serious health, social, and psychological consequences of drug addiction.
Dr. Kalaivani urged students and the public to remain vigilant, make informed life choices, and support peers who may be vulnerable to substance abuse. Her message reinforced the importance of early awareness and community-level intervention.

The Drug Awareness Rally began with a warm welcome address by Mr. M. Ayyanaraj, Anti-Drug Coordinator of Kamaraj College. He highlighted the institution’s long-standing commitment to student welfare, social responsibility, and public awareness initiatives.
The function was presided over by Mr. Muthuselvam, College Secretary, who delivered the presidential address and administered the anti-drug pledge to students and members of the public. Walkathon from Bell Hotel to Muthunagar Beach
At 5.00 p.m., a massive walkathon was conducted from Bell Hotel to Muthunagar Beach. Over 500 students from:
- Kamaraj College
- Kamaraj Women’s College
- Bharatha Ratna Kamaraj School
- Chinnamani Nadar School
participated in the walkathon. Students carried placards and banners displaying strong anti-drug slogans, spreading awareness among the public and encouraging community participation in the campaign.
Cultural Programme at Muthunagar Beach
At 6.00 p.m., a vibrant cultural programme was held at the Muthunagar Beach Open-Air Theatre. Students presented skits, songs, and performances that highlighted the dangers of drug abuse and promoted positive life values such as self-discipline, responsibility, and social commitment.
The beach programme drew a large audience, including students, faculty members, school staff, and members of the general public, creating a strong community atmosphere around the cause.
