Drug Abuse Awareness Programme: 10 Powerful Lessons on Health and Law

Introduction

The Drug Abuse Awareness Programme and Legal Awareness Programme was jointly organized by the Drug Abuse Awareness Club and the National Service Scheme Units 56 and 145 of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi on 27 July 2026.

The programme was conducted to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, the importance of responsible choices, ways to overcome peer pressure and the legal consequences connected with drug-related offences. The session also helped students understand their legal rights and responsibilities.

Objectives of the Programme

The Drug Abuse Awareness Programme was organized to educate students on health, discipline and legal awareness.

The major objectives of the programme were:

Chief Guests of the Programme

The chief guests for the programme were Mr. Ramjee Pathi, Free Legal Aid Counsel, Thoothukudi Court, and Ms. Shanmuga Priya, Legal Volunteer.

Their presence added great value to the programme. They provided useful guidance on drug prevention, student responsibility, legal rights and the legal impact of drug-related offences.

Their practical explanations helped students understand the seriousness of drug abuse and the importance of following the law.

Awareness on Harmful Effects of Drug Abuse

The event was organized by Dr. Marimuthu, NSS Programme Officer, Unit 145, and Mr. Ayyanuraj, NSS Programme Officer, Unit 56. Their coordination helped in the successful conduct of the awareness programme.

Around 50 students participated in the programme and benefited from the awareness session.
