Dental Awareness Programme: 10 Powerful Health Lessons to Say No to Drugs

Introduction

The Dental Awareness Programme on the theme “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Healthy Gums” was successfully organized by the Department of Commerce (Self-Financing) of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, in collaboration with the Youth Red Cross, on 22 July 2026 at 10.30 a.m. in the Mini Seminar Hall.

The programme was conducted to create awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug addiction on oral health and overall health. It also emphasized the importance of oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups, healthy lifestyle practices and prevention of addictive habits.

Objectives of the Programme

The Dental Awareness Programme was organized to promote health awareness and responsible behaviour among students.

The major objectives of the programme were:

  • To create awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction on oral health
  • To educate students about gum diseases, tooth decay and oral cancer
  • To highlight the importance of proper oral hygiene

Welcome Address

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address delivered by the student coordinator. The student coordinator welcomed the dignitaries, resource person, faculty members and students.

The welcome address created a positive beginning to the Dental Awareness Programme and introduced the importance of the theme. It also encouraged students to actively participate in the session and make use of the valuable health guidance provided by the resource person.

Guidance and Coordination

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. V. Gopalakrishnan, Head, Department of Commerce (SF). The event was coordinated by Dr. R. Aathilakshmi, Organising Secretary.

Their guidance and coordination helped in the smooth and successful conduct of the awareness programme. The collaboration of the Department of Commerce (SF) with the Youth Red Cross added social relevance and health awareness value to the event.

Resource Person of the Programme

The resource person for the programme was Dr. R. Lakshmi, BDS, Mira Dental Clinic, Tirunelveli.

She delivered an informative and interactive session on the harmful effects of drug addiction on oral and overall health. Her explanations were clear, practical and useful for students. She helped the participants understand how addictive substances can seriously affect dental health and general well-being.
