Awareness Programme to School Students – Botany Dept.

With the sponsorship of Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology, Government of India, Chennai, our Botany Department conducted an awareness programme entitled “Conservation of Palmyra Tree and it’s value added products” for the Government school students on 10.10.2023. The programme started with the lighting of kuthuvilaku. Dr. T. Ponrathy Head of the department of Botany welcomed the gathering. Thoothukudi District Chief Educational Officer Mrs.L.Regini was the Chief Guest and delivered her inaugural address. Mr.P.S.P.K.J.Somu , Secretary of our college participated in this programme and honoured the Chief Guest. Our college Principal Dr.J.Poongodi and Vice-principal Dr.A.Ashok felicitated the programme. Dr. M. Muthu sheeba, Assistant professor of Botany gave the vote of thanks in the inaugural session.Resource persons of the four sessions respectively were Dr.N.Nirmal Kumar, Assistant Professor VHNSN College, Virudunagar, Mrs.S.Manoranjitham, Dupty Director of Agricultural Department, Thoothukudi District, Mrs.S.Dhanalakshmi, Palmyra Tree Association, Thoothukudi District and Dr.K.Bhanumathi, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Zoology, Kamaraj College, Thoothukudi. 75 Students from 6 Government Schools along with their teachers participated and got benefited by this awareness programme. At the end of the programme participation certificates were distributed for all the participants. Through this programme the students came to know about the Palmyra Tree and understood it’s economic and ecological values. Dr.T.Kumareswari welcomed the gathering and I. Mahima jencia salom, I MSc Botany student, gave the vote of thanks in the valedictory session.
