
Awareness program on Say No to Plastics; Say Yes to 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) – Green and Clean Club
The Green and Clean Club organised an awareness program titled “Say No to Plastics; Say Yes to 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) on August 8, 2023, at Smart Hall, Kamaraj College. The event began with the Tamilthai Vazhthu. Mr.C. Rajasekaran, Sanitary Officer from the East Zone of the Muncipal Corportation in Thoothukudi, was the esteemed Chief Guest. He delivered a comprehensive speech on the importance of adopting the 3R’s to address the plastic issue. Mr. Rajasekaran discussed the reasons behind the need to reduce, reuse and recycle plastics, and he also highlighted the adverse impacts of plastics on the environment. He emphasized the use of alternatives like Manjapai, Organic and degradable products. Dr. T. Ponrathy, HOD of Botany, presented the felicitation address, focusing on the essence of the program’s theme and how individuals can effectively integrate the 3R’s into their daily lives. Dr. M. Muthu Sheeba, Assistant Professor of Botany, along with Animator Co-ordinator Mr.A.Ashok Kumar and his team members Mr.Vimal and Mr. Kali, actively participated in the event. The Program commenced with a welcome address by M. Pavithra (III B.Sc. Physics). Aarthi Bharathi (II B.A. Economics) proposed the vote of thanks. The entire program was effectively conducted by Mari Nisha (II B.Sc. Botany). The interactive session with Mr. C. Rajasekaran allowed participants to seek clarification on their doubts and engage in discussions. Around 120 students participated in this program. Both students and faculty members shared their feedback at the conclusion of the session. All the participants and faculties have taken oath to follow the principles of the 3R’s -Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The event was organised successfully by the organizing team, Dr. T. Kumareswari as the Co-ordinator, along with team members Dr. S. Kanagaprabha, Dr. S. Senthil, Dr. B. Viji, Dr. G. Hari Siva Annam, Dr. A. Govindharaju, and Dr. S. Saraswathi. The program concluded with the National Anthem. The event left a positive impact by raising awareness about the importance of adopting sustainable practices to combat the plastic problem.
