Alumni Interaction at Kamaraj College – Inspiring Talk by Sound Engineer Karthik Raja
Alumni Interaction at Kamaraj College took a step forward in bridging academic learning with industry insights by organizing an enriching session through the Department of Visual Communication.
The invited speaker for this interactive session was Mr. Karthik Raja, a proud alumnus of the department (Batch 2022–2024), who is currently working as a Sound Engineer at VASCOM Production, Chennai.
Mr. Karthik Raja shared his personal and professional journey in the media field. From being a student in the classrooms of Kamaraj College to handling complex sound mixing boards in professional studios, his story was both relatable and motivational. The session began with a warm welcome by the faculty, followed by an introduction to the speaker’s career path.
He began by reflecting on his days as a Visual Communication student at Kamaraj College, highlighting the projects and departmental activities that prepared him for the challenges of the media industry. He thanked his professors and mentors who gave him opportunities to explore his passion and sharpen his technical knowledge.
During the interaction, Karthik Raja explained his responsibilities as a Sound Engineer at VASCOM Production. He emphasized how theoretical knowledge gained during college was transformed into practical application once he entered the industry.
He elaborated on various aspects of audio production such as field recording, sound editing, mixing, and mastering. His real-life examples and project experiences captivated the students. The session focused heavily on the importance of technical skills.
Karthik emphasized the necessity of mastering tools like Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, and Logic Pro X. He advised students to get familiar with industry-standard software and keep practicing outside the classroom. He further highlighted how internships, workshops, and short film projects at the college shaped his confidence and readiness for real-world challenges.
He also spoke about teamwork, time management, and communication as essential qualities in the media field. According to him, understanding the workflow of media production houses and knowing how to work under pressure are key factors for success.
The most inspiring part of the Alumni Interaction at Kamaraj College was when Mr. Karthik Raja encouraged students to never give up on learning. “Every sound, every project is a lesson. Keep exploring,” he said.
He urged students to participate in competitions, seminars, and live projects to build their portfolios. He also gave tips on approaching production companies and preparing for interviews in the media field.
The session concluded with a Q&A round, where students eagerly interacted with the speaker. Questions ranged from career guidance and portfolio building to challenges in the workplace and freelancing opportunities.
