A Grand Start to the Academic Year for the Botany Department
The Department of Botany at Kamaraj College inaugurated its prestigious Florets Club 2025 on 31st July 2025 at the Kamaraj Kalvi Arangam. The program was held between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, drawing enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty. The inaugural event marked the beginning of a new academic season filled with botanical exploration, scientific discussions, and student-led initiatives.
Warm Welcome and Club Introduction
The event began on a cheerful note with a welcome address by Ms. Sri Ranjani, a student of II B.Sc. Botany. Her thoughtful words and warm tone set the stage for the formal proceedings. Following the welcome, the Florets Club student members were introduced to the audience. These students will be coordinating various academic and co-curricular activities throughout the year under the banner of the club.
Honouring the Club President and Guests
In a special moment of the ceremony, Dr. K. Bhanumathi, Principal of Kamaraj College, was officially designated as the President of the Florets Club. This honour was presented by Mr. P. Saravanakumar, a student of III B.Sc. Botany. The Principal shared a few encouraging words for the students and emphasized the importance of developing a deeper understanding of plant sciences in today’s world.
The session also included the felicitation of three distinguished guests who were invited to share their expertise with the students:
- Dr. Mathan M.D, Assistant Professor, Sudha Sasidharan Siddha Medical College and Hospital, Kanyakumari District, was honoured by Ms. Mahalakshmi of III B.Sc. Botany.
- Dr. S. Darwin Paul Edison, Assistant Professor of Botany at St. John’s College, Palayamkottai, was honoured by Ms. Muthu Sri of II B.Sc. Botany.
- Dr. Rajesh, Assistant Professor at Government Siddha College, Thoothukudi, was honoured by Ms. Santhiya of I B.Sc. Botany.
In addition to the above, a special felicitation was extended to Mr. Rajesh from Siddha Medical College in recognition of his contribution to the field of herbal medicine.

Following this, Dr. S. Darwin Paul Edison captivated the audience with his session on “Future Frontiers in Plant Sciences”.
