College Bazaar Program
The Thoothukudi District Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department organized a vibrant College Bazaar Programme at the campus of Kamaraj College, offering a unique platform to promote local entrepreneurship and empower women from self-help groups.
The bazaar was inaugurated on 1st July 2025 by Dr. K. Bhanumathi, Principal (i/c), in the esteemed presence of Mrs. Mallika, Joint Director, Rural Development. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and support from college faculty, officials, and students.
As part of the program, around 20 stalls were set up on campus, managed by members of Self-Help Women’s Groups from various parts of Thoothukudi District. The stalls showcased a wide range of locally made products including handicrafts, textiles, food items, household goods, and eco-friendly products, reflecting the creativity and entrepreneurship of rural women.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. S. Senthil, Vice-Principal, along with the College Superintendent and senior officials from the Rural Development Department. Their presence added significance to the event and reinforced the importance of community engagement and institutional support in promoting women-led enterprises.
The College Bazaar not only created a marketplace for rural women entrepreneurs but also provided our students with the opportunity to interact with them, learn about grassroots business models, and understand the importance of supporting local economies. The initiative was well-received by students, who actively visited the stalls and made purchases, making the event both educational and impactful.
Overall, the programme served as an excellent example of collaboration between academic institutions and government bodies to foster rural development, women empowerment, and entrepreneurial learning.
