Alumni Interactive Session – Chemistry Department, Kamaraj College
The PG and Research Department of Chemistry at Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, proudly hosted a dynamic and insightful Alumni Interactive Session – Chemistry Department, Kamaraj College on July 14, 2025. This event was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial practices by fostering meaningful engagement between students and accomplished alumni.
Why Alumni Sessions Matter:
In today’s competitive academic and professional environment, alumni interactions offer students more than just inspiration—they provide guidance, real-world perspectives, and opportunities to ask critical career-related questions. These sessions equip students with a clearer vision of what lies ahead after graduation and how to best prepare for it.
The event welcomed two highly accomplished alumni of the department as chief guests:
Mr. L. Sivalingam, currently working as a Research Assistant at CMFRI (Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute), Thoothukudi
Mr. S. Pringlin, serving as a Lab Analyst at V.V. Titanium Pigments, Thoothukudi
Both guests shared valuable insights into their career paths, challenges they overcame, and the specific skill sets required to excel in today’s chemical and research industries. Their diverse experiences in marine research and industrial chemistry gave students a broader understanding of the potential career avenues available to them.
During the session, UG and PG students actively engaged in discussions, seeking clarity on job prospects, interview preparation, and research opportunities. The alumni emphasized the importance of:
Hands-on lab experience
Building strong fundamentals in core chemistry subjects
Staying updated with current industry trends
Pursuing internships and certifications to boost employability
Students also received suggestions on improving soft skills such as communication, time management, and collaboration—essential traits in both research and industry roles. The alumni also discussed higher education opportunities, including postgraduate and doctoral programs in India and abroad.
The event was meticulously coordinated by the Department’s faculty and the enthusiastic student council members. Their planning ensured that every student had a chance to interact, ask questions, and gain insights from the speakers. The lively, informal format encouraged open conversations and made the session a memorable experience for all attendees.
This Alumni Interactive Session – Chemistry Department, Kamaraj College is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to holistic education. By connecting current students with successful alumni, the department not only strengthens its academic ecosystem but also reinforces the culture of mentorship and lifelong learning.
The Chemistry Department sincerely thanks Mr. M. Sivalingam and Mr. S. Pringlin for their time, enthusiasm, and valuable contributions. The feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing renewed motivation to pursue careers in scientific research and industrial chemistry.
