NSS Orientation Programme 2026: Powerful Lessons on Service and Environment

NSS Orientation Programme was organised by the Department of Commerce (SF) and NSS Units 241, 242 and 243 of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, on 24 September 2026 at the GJ Block Seminar Hall.
The programme introduced NSS volunteers to the values, responsibilities and social commitments associated with the National Service Scheme. It focused on developing social responsibility, civic consciousness, environmental awareness and a spirit of community service among the volunteers.

NSS Orientation Programme 2026

The NSS Orientation Programme provided volunteers with a better understanding of the purpose and values of the National Service Scheme.
The programme encouraged students to recognise their role in society and actively participate in activities that contribute to community welfare and environmental protection.
Two resource sessions were conducted on social development and urban pollution.

Understanding the Spirit of NSS

The orientation highlighted the importance of voluntary service as an integral part of student development.
NSS volunteers were encouraged to develop qualities such as empathy, leadership, teamwork, discipline and civic responsibility.

Session I – The Role of NSS in Social Development

The first resource session was delivered by Mr. D. Christopher, M.A., Co-founder – We Can and Proprietor – Brisky Traders.
He addressed the volunteers on the topic “The Role of NSS in Social Development.”
The session explained how NSS volunteers can contribute to society through community-oriented activities and responsible participation.

“Not Me, But You” – The NSS Motto

Mr. D. Christopher explained the significance of the NSS motto, “Not Me, But You.”
He highlighted how the motto reflects the spirit of selfless service and concern for the welfare of others.
The NSS Orientation Programme encouraged volunteers to apply this principle through meaningful participation in social and community initiatives.

Leadership, Teamwork and Empathy

The first session emphasised the importance of leadership, teamwork, empathy and civic responsibility.

He addressed the volunteers on the topic “Impact of Pollution in Our City.”
The session created awareness about different forms of pollution and their impact on the environment and public health.

Understanding Different Types of Pollution

During the NSS Orientation Programme, students were introduced to major forms of pollution affecting urban environments.
The session covered:

• Land Pollution
• Noise Pollution
• Plastic Pollution

Mr. V. Ariganesan explained how these forms of pollution can affect both human health and the environment.
