Report on NSS Orientation Programme – “From Service to Social Transformation”
NSS Orientation Programme titled “From Service to Social Transformation” was organized by the Department of Commerce (SF), in association with NSS Units 241 and 242 of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, on 11 August 2026 (Tuesday) from 10.00 a.m. onwards at the GJ Block Seminar Hall.
The programme followed the theme “Together in Service, Committed to Change” and aimed to create awareness about social service, civic responsibility, and community development. Moreover, the session encouraged students to understand their responsibilities as NSS volunteers and become socially committed citizens. A total of 97 students benefited from the programme.
Objectives of the Programme
The NSS Orientation Programme focused on the following objectives:
- Create awareness about the importance of social service
- Introduce students to the responsibilities of NSS volunteers
- Promote civic responsibility and community participation
- Develop leadership and teamwork skills
- Encourage compassion and commitment towards society
- Motivate students to participate in voluntary service
- Highlight the role of youth in social transformation
Therefore, the programme provided students with a clear understanding of how voluntary service can contribute to meaningful social development.
Resource Person
Dr. K. Kalyani, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of English (SF), Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, served as the resource person for the programme.
She delivered an inspiring session on the importance of service and explained how young people can contribute positively to society. Furthermore, she encouraged students to view community service as an opportunity to develop both personal values and professional skills.
From Service to Social Transformation
During the NSS Orientation Programme, Dr. K. Kalyani highlighted the role of dedicated service in bringing positive changes to communities.
She emphasized several important values, including:
