Report on Drug Awareness Competition – “No to Drugs”
Drug Awareness Competition titled “No to Drugs” was organized by the Department of Commerce (SF), in collaboration with NSS Units 241 and 242 of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, on 11 August 2026 (Tuesday) from 10.00 a.m. onwards at the GJ Block Seminar Hall.
The programme followed the theme “Youth for a Drug-Free Society” and aimed to create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Moreover, the event encouraged young people to make healthy choices and develop a strong sense of social responsibility.
Objectives of the Programme
The Drug Awareness Competition focused on the following objectives:
- Create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse
- Encourage students to adopt healthy and responsible lifestyles
- Promote the vision of a drug-free society
- Help students understand the consequences of substance abuse
- Develop creativity through awareness-based competitions
- Strengthen social responsibility among young people
- Encourage students to spread drug prevention messages among their peers
Therefore, the programme combined creativity with social awareness and encouraged students to become active advocates for a healthier society.
Youth for a Drug-Free Society
The programme emphasized the important role of young people in preventing drug abuse. Students learned about the physical, psychological, academic, and social consequences associated with substance abuse.
Furthermore, the theme encouraged participants to resist negative peer pressure and make responsible decisions. The programme also highlighted the importance of spreading awareness among friends, families, and communities.
As a result, the Drug Awareness Competition provided students with an opportunity to communicate an important social message through their artistic talents.
Pencil Art Competition
First, the organizers conducted a Pencil Art Competition, which attracted 16 participants.
Students creatively expressed their views on the dangers of drug abuse through meaningful pencil sketches. Moreover, their artwork highlighted the consequences of addiction and communicated strong messages about healthy living.
The winners of the Pencil Art Competition were:
- First Prize: A. Aveins – I B.Com Batch II
- Second Prize: R. Mariselvam – III B.Com Batch II
- Third Prize: M. Aravinth – II B.Com Batch III
Thus, the competition enabled students to combine artistic expression with an important message about drug prevention.
Poster Making Competition
Meanwhile, the Poster Making Competition attracted 15 teams. Participants created visually engaging posters based on the theme of building a drug-free society.
Through creative illustrations and powerful messages, the students highlighted the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of making healthy choices. In addition, the posters encouraged young people to resist peer pressure and support one another in choosing a positive lifestyle.
The winners of the Poster Making Competition were:
- First Prize: N. Padma Priya and M. Kannika Devi – II B.Com Banking and Finance
- Second Prize: K. Santhana Gopika and M. Indira Priyadarshini – II B.Com Banking and Finance
- Third Prize: S. Sofy Isagulite and M. Divya – I B.Com Banking and E-Commerce
Consequently, the competition transformed student creativity into an effective medium for spreading awareness about drug prevention.
Creativity for Social Awareness
The Drug Awareness Competition successfully used art and visual communication to address an important social issue.
Furthermore, the participants demonstrated how creative expression can communicate meaningful messages and influence positive behaviour. Their artworks reflected awareness of the dangers associated with drug abuse and emphasized the importance of choosing a healthy future.

The NSS Programme Officers, Dr. M. Reeda Albin Mary and Dr. D. Maria Sahaya Diran, coordinated the programme with the support and guidance of the college authorities and the Department of Commerce (SF).
Moreover, their coordination ensured the smooth conduct of both competitions and encouraged students to participate actively in the awareness initiative.

The Drug Awareness Competition successfully achieved its objectives by combining creative expression with drug prevention awareness.
The programme helped students to:
