Importance of Soft Skills in Student Life

The Soft Skill Development Programme highlighted the importance of soft skills in student life and professional development. Students were made aware that success in academics and careers depends not only on subject knowledge but also on the ability to communicate, cooperate, adapt, and present oneself effectively.

Soft skills help students perform better in interviews, group discussions, presentations, internships, projects, and workplace interactions. They also improve confidence, decision-making, leadership, emotional balance, and teamwork.

The session helped students understand that soft skills must be developed continuously through regular practice, self-awareness, and active participation.

Session on Effective Communication

During the session, the resource person explained the importance of effective communication in academic and professional life. She encouraged students to speak clearly, listen carefully, express ideas confidently, and interact respectfully with others.

She explained that communication is not limited to speaking alone. It also includes listening, body language, tone, clarity, confidence, and the ability to understand others. Students were encouraged to overcome hesitation and practise communication regularly to improve fluency and confidence.

This part of the Soft Skill Development Programme was highly useful for students preparing for interviews, seminars, presentations, and professional interactions.

Confidence Building and Positive Thinking

The resource person also focused on confidence building and positive thinking. She explained that confidence helps students face challenges, participate actively, and express themselves without fear.

She motivated students to believe in their abilities and develop a positive mindset. Through practical examples, she showed how positive thinking can help students overcome failure, handle pressure, and move forward with determination.

Students were encouraged to avoid negative self-talk and develop the habit of focusing on improvement. The session helped them understand that confidence grows through preparation, practice, and consistent effort.

Time Management and Professional Etiquette

The programme also created awareness about time management and professional etiquette. The resource person explained that managing time effectively is important for academic performance, project completion, placement preparation, and career success.

Students were guided to plan their day, prioritize tasks, avoid delay, and maintain discipline in their academic work. She also explained the importance of professional behaviour, punctuality, proper communication, respectful interaction, grooming, responsibility, and workplace manners.

Teamwork and Leadership Skills

The Soft Skill Development Programme also emphasized teamwork and leadership qualities. Students were encouraged to understand the value of cooperation, mutual respect, responsibility, and group participation.

Leadership skills help students take responsibility, guide others, make decisions, and contribute positively to group success.

The session encouraged students to participate actively in group activities, department events, projects, and campus initiatives to develop leadership and teamwork skills.
