Introduction

The Freshers Orientation Programme for the Academic Year 2026–2027 was successfully organized by the Students’ Council of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi on 15 June 2026 for first-year aided students and their parents. The programme was designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the institution, its academic environment, student support systems, and opportunities available for holistic development.

The orientation programme served as an important platform for helping freshers and their parents understand the values, expectations, and academic culture of the college. It also enabled students to begin their higher education journey with confidence, clarity, and enthusiasm.

Objectives of the Programme

The Freshers Orientation Programme was organized with several important objectives aimed at ensuring a smooth transition from school education to college life.

The programme focused on:

Traditional Beginning to the Programme

The Freshers Orientation Programme commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu followed by the College Prayer Song, creating a respectful and inspiring atmosphere. The traditional beginning reflected the institution’s commitment to cultural values and educational excellence.

Presidential Address by the Principal

Dr. K. Bhanumathi, Principal, delivered the Presidential Address and warmly welcomed the freshers and their parents.

During the Freshers Orientation Programme, she introduced the institution and highlighted its rich academic legacy, achievements, and commitment to quality education. She explained the importance of discipline, dedication, and active participation in academic and co-curricular activities.

The Principal encouraged students to make effective use of the opportunities available within the campus and to strive for excellence in all their endeavors.

Students’ Council Activities and Opportunities

A significant component of the Freshers Orientation Programme was the introduction to the Students’ Council and its activities.

Mr. Bless Gabriel Cecil, III B.Sc. Physics and Chairman of the Students’ Council, addressed the gathering and explained the various programmes, leadership opportunities, and student engagement activities organized throughout the academic year.

He encouraged the freshers to actively participate in council initiatives, cultural programmes, social service activities, and leadership development opportunities. His address inspired students to become active contributors to campus life.

Ms. Mutharasi, III B.Sc. Botany and Vice Chairperson, also graced the occasion and supported the orientation activities.

Recognition of Academic Excellence

One of the highlights of the Freshers Orientation Programme was the recognition of outstanding academic achievement.

As a special gesture of encouragement, one boy and one girl student from each department who had secured the highest marks in the Higher Secondary Examination were honoured with book gifts. This recognition celebrated academic excellence and motivated other students to pursue their studies with commitment and determination.

The programme was effectively coordinated by the Students’ Council members and was compered by Mr. Saravanan, Office Superintendent.
