Women Entrepreneurs Training: 12 Powerful Steps to Build Self Reliance

Introduction to the Programme

The Women Entrepreneurs Training programme titled “Launch Your Business: Five-Day Training for Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs” was successfully inaugurated on 27 April 2026 at 10.00 a.m. at the C. V. Raman Computer Science Block of Kamaraj College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi.

The programme was organized by the IQAC and Kamaraj Startup Center in collaboration with the Women Entrepreneur Welfare Association, Tamil Nadu. The initiative was designed to encourage practical skill development, self-employment, and confidence among women who aspire to start small businesses.

The first day focused on the inaugural function and a hands-on floor mat making training session. Around 30 participants from different age groups, including students, homemakers, working women, and aspiring entrepreneurs, actively took part in the session.

Objectives of the Programme

The Women Entrepreneurs Training initiative was planned with the objective of helping women develop practical skills that can support income generation and independent business activity.

The main objectives included:

  • Encouraging women to explore self-employment opportunities
  • Providing practical training in floor mat making
  • Creating awareness about small-scale business possibilities
  • Developing confidence among aspiring entrepreneurs
  • Promoting skill-based learning and financial independence

The programme also aimed to make participants understand that entrepreneurship can begin with simple, useful, and marketable products.

Inaugural Session

The Women Entrepreneurs Training programme commenced with the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. M. Gethsiyal Augasta, IQAC Coordinator.

She warmly welcomed the dignitaries, resource persons, participants, and members of the organizing team. In her address, she emphasized the importance of entrepreneurial skills for women in the present competitive environment.

She also highlighted how self-employment can become a meaningful path for personal growth, family support, and social contribution.

The programme began on a positive note, encouraging participants to approach the five-day training with interest and commitment.

Lighting of Kuthuvilaku

The ceremonial Lighting of Kuthuvilaku was carried out by the dignitaries. This traditional beginning symbolized knowledge, prosperity, confidence, and success.

The moment added dignity to the inaugural function and created a respectful atmosphere for the training programme. It also reflected the cultural values of the institution while marking the beginning of a practical learning journey.

Felicitation Address

The felicitation address was delivered by Dr. K. Bhanumathi, Principal, and Dr. A. Arunachala Rajan, Vice Principal.

They appreciated the initiative and encouraged the participants to make full use of the opportunity. They stressed that practical training programmes can help women become more confident, skilled, and financially independent.

Their words motivated the participants to view the Women Entrepreneurs Training as a stepping stone toward self-reliance and future business development.

Resource Person Introduction

The resource person introduction was given by Dr. R. Karuppasamy, EDC Coordinator. He introduced the trainer for the day and explained the relevance of vocational training in the present entrepreneurial landscape.

He also highlighted that simple handmade products, when developed with quality and creativity, can become sustainable business opportunities. His introduction helped participants understand the practical value of the training session.

Special Address by WEWA Secretary

A special address was delivered by Mrs. Silambarasi, Secretary of WEWA. She motivated the participants by sharing insights on women-led businesses and the importance of confidence, consistency, and courage in entrepreneurship.

She encouraged the participants to believe in their abilities and take small but steady steps toward business development. Her address added inspiration to the Women Entrepreneurs Training and strengthened the purpose of the programme.

Floor Mat Making Training Session

The resource person for the training session, Mrs. Manju from Chennai, conducted an engaging and practical hands-on session on floor mat making.

She explained the materials required, basic techniques, design possibilities, cost-effectiveness, and marketing potential of handmade floor mats. Participants were guided step by step and were encouraged to learn through direct practice.

The session showed that floor mat making can be developed as a small-scale business with limited investment. Participants also learned how creativity, neat finishing, and product quality can improve market value.

This practical session made the Women Entrepreneurs Training useful, interactive, and relevant to real-life entrepreneurial needs.

Participant Involvement

The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the session. Students, homemakers, working women, and aspiring entrepreneurs actively involved themselves in the learning process.

The Women Entrepreneurs Training successfully introduced participants to practical skill development and set the tone for the remaining sessions of the five-day programme.
