Proficient English: From Basics to Brilliance – Commerce Department
The language enrichment initiative of the Department of Commerce, Kamaraj College, reached a successful and inspiring conclusion on 18th July 2025 with its final session titled “Proficient English: From Basics to Brilliance.” This session, specially curated for all five first-year classes, was conducted by the dynamic and resourceful Ms. Smeha John Machado, whose engaging methodology left a lasting impact on the participants.
This concluding workshop adopted a comprehensive and progressive approach to language learning. It began by revisiting essential grammar concepts and gradually moved toward advanced usage through carefully designed activities such as role plays, structured dialogues, and pronunciation drills. These tasks provided students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-life conversation scenarios, significantly boosting their fluency, accuracy, and spontaneity in spoken English.
The session also delivered practical insights on sentence construction, guiding students on how to avoid common grammatical errors and build coherent, well-structured arguments—skills crucial for academic presentations, group discussions, and placement interviews. Ms. Smeha encouraged learners to embrace English as a tool for personal and professional growth, emphasizing that daily reading and fearless practice are key to achieving language proficiency.
Students expressed heartfelt reflections at the end of the session, highlighting their renewed self-confidence and a strong sense of motivation to continue improving step by step. They appreciated the workshop’s friendly tone and the safe space it provided to explore and express themselves in English without fear of judgment.
This final session not only marked the conclusion of the series but also reaffirmed the department’s dedication to holistic student development through language empowerment. The Department of Commerce is committed to organizing more such meaningful and skill-oriented workshops in the near future, helping students become effective communicators and confident individuals.
