The Department of Computer Science was established in response to the growing demand for computer education and the expanding scope of career opportunities in the IT industry. An Undergraduate (UG) programme in Computer Science was introduced in the year 1987 under the regular (aided) stream, marking the department’s first step toward offering technology-driven education.
In recognition of the evolving needs of the industry and higher education, the department made a significant academic leap by launching a Postgraduate (PG) programme in Computer Applications (M.C.A.) in 1993. This course, approved by AICTE, was designed to offer students advanced technical and professional skills, preparing them for roles in software development, data management, and enterprise solutions.
To widen the scope of access and accommodate the growing interest in computer studies, the department introduced additional self-financed courses—B.Sc. Computer Science in 1995 and B.C.A. (Bachelor of Computer Applications) in 2014. These programs have been instrumental in offering students from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to pursue technology-oriented education.
Currently, the department is supported by a team of 16 dedicated faculty members. Among them, 5 faculty members serve in the aided stream, while the remaining contribute actively under the self-supporting stream. The department remains committed to providing quality education, hands-on training, and fostering innovation, ensuring that students are industry-ready and academically competent.
