The Department of English is a dynamic and intellectually vibrant part of the institution, recognized for embracing a wide range of methodological and pedagogical approaches to the study of language and literature.
The department was established in 1968 with the introduction of the Pre-University Course. Since its inception, it has been committed to enhancing students’ linguistic competence and literary appreciation. It offers Part II English to all undergraduate students across various disciplines, ensuring a strong foundation in English communication and writing skills.
In the year 2013, the department expanded its academic offerings by launching the B.A. English programme under the self-financed stream. This marked a significant milestone in the department’s growth, catering to students with a keen interest in literature, language, and critical thinking.
The department is presently supported by a team of 12 dedicated faculty members. Among them, 5 serve under the aided stream, while the remaining contribute actively through the self-supporting stream. Together, they uphold the department’s mission to cultivate a rich learning environment that fosters creativity, analytical thinking, and effective communication.
