The Department of Physics was started in the year 1988 to teach under graduate and has crossed many milestones in its development. It has a team of dedicated staff members who are striving hard their best to achieve academic excellence. The department has 5 faculty members out of which 4 faculty members hold Ph.D. degree in Physics. The department has very well equipped laboratories for conducting all its programs. Teachers of this department are very resourceful and accomplished in different areas of Physics. Faculty members have been deputed to attend national and international conferences. The staff members published more than 30 research papers in national and international journals. They have also acted as resource persons and given many guest lectures. (In the month of April 2013, the department conducted a national level seminar on "Climate change Impacts on Environment" sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), New Delhi. This seminar was co-sponsored by Tamilnad Mercantille Bank ltd., & DCW Ltd., Sahupuram, Thoothukudi District). Also two minor research project sponsored by UGC is currently going on from the month of March, 2013.
Minor Research Project entitled "Physico - Chemical Studies on Molecular interaction of binary liquid mixtures at different temperature" has been sanctioned to Dr. J. Poongodi Assistant Professor on 26.03.2013 for a period of two years. Project grant as for Rs. 2 Lacks I installment amount Rs. 1, 81,000/- is released from UGC. Ultrasonic Interferometer, Thermostat and other allied equipment are purchased and research work is started in the month of August 2013. Three research papers are presented and published in the proceedings of National seminar on Ultrasonic's organized by department of Physics. Ravenshaw University, Cuttack on 25 & 26, January 2014.
Minor Research project entitled "Investigation of electronic, mechanical and elastic properties of some hydrogen storage materials" has been sanctioned to S. Kanaga Prabha Assistant Professor on March 2014. The allocated amount for this project is Rs. 4, 25,000/- Amount sanctioned as first installment is Rs. 4, 17,500/- from UGC. VASP software has been installed in the month of September 2014. The work is progress. One paper has been sent for publication regarding this project work.
